Sophia C. Kling Jackson
1891-1957

born San Francisco, California
Sophie Kling is one of the family mysteries. Walter Fanning, b. 1909, remembered that Sophie was a relative on his mother's side, but he does not (in 2005) know the relationship. Walter remembers that Sophie's family owned and operated a shop like a delicatessen in San Leandro, CA.

Sophie appears in a news article in a San Francisco paper in about 1905 listing the party guests at a party given in honor of Walter's mother, Anna Dagmar Kofod. Along with Sophie were her brothers Henry and Lawrence, and her uncle "Mr. Petersen."

John L. or J. Kling and his wife Annie C., (Petersen) appear on the 1900 Census of San Francisco with their children Henry, b. November 1886 in Germany; Lawrence, b. September 1889 in California; and Sophia C., b. April 3, 1891 in California. The family lived at 519 1/2 Eighth Street in San Francisco at the time. Living with them was Chris Petersen, a boarder who also appears to be the brother of Annie C. Kling. Chris Petersen was born Nov. 1871 and was 28 years old and single in 1900. John Kling and Chris Petersen worked as teamsters.
Sophie's brother Lawrence married Sybil Daniels, (b. May 14, 1906 in California and d. June 15, 1950 in San Francisco). Sybil's mother's maiden name was Rabolt. Lawrence and Sybil had two children: Joan Loreen Kling, b. November 10, 1929 and Lawrence Peter Kling, b. May 2, 1931, both in San Francisco. Lawrence Kling died in San Francisco on December 29, 1949.
Sophie appears on the San Francisco Census of 1900, 1910, and 1920 as ages 9, 19, and 28, single and working as an accountant. In 1920 she was working in San Francisco as the bookkeeper for a dry goods store. In 1929 she married Charles W. Jackson. They resided in 1930 at 541 Kenilworth Avenue in San Leandro where Charles was the proprietor of a variety store and Sophie was an accountant for a mining engineering company.
California records show that Charles William Jackson was born in Colorado on July 7, 1885 and died in Contra Costa County, CA on July 25, 1959. His mother's maiden name was Bell. California records further show that Sophia C. Kling Jackson was born Ajpril 3, 1891 in San Francisco and died August 2, 1957 at age 66 in Contra Costa County, CA. Her mother's maiden name was Petersen.
We continue to look for the connection between the Petersen/Kling family and the Jorgensen/Kofod family.
