John Joseph Fanning
and
Jane Swadley Fanning

born in North Carolina died in Tennessee
John Joseph Fanning was born in Anson County, North Carolina about 1796. He was the son of Thomas and Sarah Fanning. In the History of Dade and Barton Counties, it says that Thomas and Sarah came from England. They moved their family to Tennessee where they were farmers in the 1830's. They appear on the Federal Census of Knox Co., Tennessee in 1840.
John married Jane Swadley on July 27, 1819 in Knox Co., TN, while his brother Thomas married Jane's sister Elizabeth, the daughters of Mark Swadley. Jane was born about 1793 in North Carolina and died in Polk Co., MO. (To further complicate the relationships, Jane and Elizabeth's brother, Thomas Swadley, married Anna Fannon [Fanning], sister of John and Thomas Fanning)
John and Jane had four children: Joseph W., born July 6, 1830; Jacob Harry born about 1834; William D., born about 1836; and Mary E., born about 1838.
